
With Barack Obama's selection of Joe Biden as vice president and his consideration of Hillary Clinton for secretary of state, the term "team of rivals" is becoming a political cliche as coverage of the transition continues.
The term served as the title of a book written in 2005 by historian, and political commentator Doris Kearns Goodwin, about the presidency of Abraham Lincoln and the team he surrounded himself with - all men who themselves wanted to be president.
Obama has mentioned several times that he has read or is re-reading the book and in his interview with 60 Minutes last weekend said he is drawing inspiration from several books on Lincoln as he prepares to take control of the Oval Office.
There is probably added interest in Obama's fascination with Lincoln since both men have political roots in Illinois.
